HRBMP Member Spotlight:
As a child, I had always dreamed of becoming a broadcast meteorologist. While the journey getting here was far from easy, it continues to be well worth it! There was one place, in particular, that I had always wanted to come back to, home. To be forecasting the weather in my hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, is a dream come true! My journey would not have been possible without my faith and awesome mentors. I was able to see the impacts of mentorship firsthand, so I knew I had to do the same, reach back and help the next person.
When I was asked to serve as the President of Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals, there was no hesitation. It was truly an honor! As president, it would not only allow me to mentor up-and-coming journalists and meteorologists, but to also establish one-on-one mentorship opportunities between student members and professionals. This is a relationship that I know for sure works! I strive to continue and to build upon the legacy that has been passed down to me. Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals is more than just a social group, we are a family. We are a support system. And we’ve built our foundation on that.
My vision is to further expand Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals’ impact in the community, continue to build a foundation for success for our members and to expand upon our scholarship program in order to further develop our next generation of journalists.
I want members to know they are not alone in their journey. They have people rooting for them and ready to lend a helping hand.
