HRBMP -- Former HRBMP President, Katrice Hardy, has been promoted to managing editor at the Virginian-Pilot. Her promotion may also mark the first time in the newspaper’s history that an African-American has held this position.  (Former HRBMP President, Marvin L. Lake, was public editor.)

As the new managing editor, her top priorities are to help the paper undergo a digital transformation that secures its future. And, retain and recruit top talent even in these tough times. She says, "We also have to keep doing what we do best -- cover this community like no one else can." As for the promotion, “I am still in disbelief. I have also

been overwhelmed by so many kind notes from many, many mentors, former editors and managers and colleagues who guided me, challenged me and told me I was talented. They've also told me that I'm ready for this new venture. It's a tough time for The Pilot and the industry. But, I will work tirelessly to help move us forward and to make all those mentors proud. I have to because we have some amazing journalists in this newsroom who are passionate about this community and their craft and they deserve to work for a news organization that lets them keep doing great work.”

We, at HRBMP, know that just as she was an exceptional HRBMP president, she will also be very successful in her new position.
